Now there is much more of a focus on plot points than characterization in mainstream movies and television. When characters speak, of which they do much too much, they are talking about things that are happening in the story. Kind of like entertainment tour guides. For some this seems more realistic, but to others it's just a dull mechanization. However there are still examples of modern entertainment focused on the development of a character. The words a character speaks hint at what's going on much deeper in their psychic sanctums. Why is there more of a focus on technical plot points over the development of interesting and complex characterization? Perhaps people aren't so interested in people.
